The D Saxophone

Today on the MTA another homeless man asking for change.

This time the man had a saxophone and an orange ‘cape’.

He was awful, so awful that people left the train. He was just blowing into the instrument and pushing the keys down at random times. Across from me was this young boy, maybe 8, and he just loved it. He got up from his seat and stepped into the aisle and gave the man a thumbs up the entire strain ride to 42nd street.

When the train pulled into 42nd Street Bryant Park the boy asked:

Boy: Can I touch it?

Man: *reaches out and takes the child’s hand and pinches it.

Boy: Ouch, that really hurt!

Man: Remember that feeling kid, that is life. (exits subway)

Boy: *crying
